Day 1 Has Begun!

Day 1 of the very first DOVERMUN conference has officially begun. The conference kicked off with an enthusiastic Opening Ceremony to welcome delegates from United World College of South East Asia Dover and East, Tanglin Trust School, St. Joseph's Institution International, Stamford American International School, International French School, ISS International School. The opening ceremony presented a series of speeches by our Deputy Director General, Ms Rebecca Butterworth and the Secretariat.

We also had the pleasure of hearing from our keynote speaker, Dr Timothy Walters, on his experience in the Political International Relations field. Dr Walters studied at the University of Bath, Oxford, LSE and UCL. He shared his aspirations for a 'better normal' as he concluded his empowering speech.

The Opening Ceremony came to an end with an address from our Secretary General, Reet Lath, who shared her own amusing experience as a first time delegate at EastMUN. She hadn't even prepared an opening speech for that conference, but has since grown and progressed through actively putting forward amendments and making speeches. Of the 17 conferences she has attended, THIMUN Hague is the most memorable. The "trip of a lifetime," allowed her to converse with hundreds of delegates from across the world, while amongst her closest school friends from East and Dover alike. She hopes that this conference will set a great precedent for the future of DOVERMUN, and will allow delegates to share the same passion for MUN that she has.

I've been trying to get our very own conference set up for years now, and the fact that it all comes to fruition in our final year is very rewarding. This is a moment that I've dreamed of since the beginning of my MUN experience, and I could not be more grateful to be ending it in this way."

The countless hours she has put in, amongst our other Executive Committee members, has allowed this conference to become a memorable experience for everyone involved.

DOVERMUN 2021 has begun on a fantastic note, with delegates beginning to take part in fruitful lobbying and merging sessions. We thank you all for participating in the very first DOVERMUN Conference and hope you enjoy the experience!
